G.O.G. (Grumpy Old Granddad)
Each of the portraits in the G.O.G. series depict my late granddad and idol, John Canvin Brown. Together, they tell a story of an adolescent grappling with a crucial role model's slow deterioration and eventual death from vascular dementia. The pieces reflect how my image of Granddad has developed posthumously, due to both my own maturing and stories told by family members that further revealed his true character. The final 2021 portrait captures a wishful memory of a loved one who has passed after battling a difficult disease— a vision of exuberance and fulfillment.
